23 1/2 Weeks

Hey, all! Hopefully things are going as well for you all as they are for us. We've had a couple of pretty good weeks lately. Our doctor's appointment for last week was canceled and so we had to reschedule for this week. The appointment went really well. We went over the results of our ultrasound and everything is looking good. The Bun looks very healthy and also remarkably symmetrical, according to our RN.

The one thing that has been a bump in the road to the Bun's arrival has to do with our doctor. Dr. Calderwood, our doctor, is pregnant and due early this month. We found out at our appointment that she was no longer going to be seeing patients and that we would need to choose a new doctor. We will meet Dr. Moody for the first time in 3 1/2 weeks. I think that we'd both admit to all of you that the situation isn't ideal, but neither of us are stressing out over it.

The Bun has continued to be active in Nicole's belly and s/he is getting closer every day to being here. I am anxious and ask Nicole once in a while if s/he can get here sooner. Fortunately for me, Nicole is smart enough to let me know that I don't really want the Bun here yet. S/he's not ready. That's what Nicole keeps telling me.

Our Bun can now hear and react to sounds from the outside world. Sounds from our alarm clock, a thunder roll, or that darned car honking across the intersection can actually jar his/her little ears enough to elicit a kick or violent bout of squirming. Of course this also means that his/her little ears are picking up the sounds of our voices and those near us. I am especially happy because lower frequencies (like my voice) are better at making it through Nicole's abdomen and to the Bun's ears than higher frequencies (like Nicole's voice). I just have to have a little advantage since the Bun gets to hear Nicole's voice all the time. Our baby's tiny taste buds are still growing and his/her bones are continuing to ossify, his/her tiny veins are visible through his/her translucent yet, wrinkly, skin. (Think of it this way: s/he has been swimming in the equivalent of a long hot bath for the past 23 weeks, so you can’t blame him/her for being a little prune-like.)

  1. Wow,23 weeks, and you still look amazing. i can still remember when I was at this stage, I was still having morning sickness, and the only thing that's keeping my stomach are my natural morning sickness cure.
